The Atlantic: What's at Stake in Cairo →
kateoplis: Let’s be quite clear: If the military opens fire in the streets of Cairo, as militaries sometimes do when dictators feel the wheels coming off - consider Hafez al-Assad killing 20,000 Syrians in Hama, in 1982, or Saddam’s 1988 Halabja massacre, or Mubarak’s own three week siege of Cairo’s Imbaba district, in 1992 - their deaths will have been financed by U.S. tax dollars.  We may not...

Un-Manage Your Employees
(By David Heinemeier Hansson, @37Signals) As your company grows, it’s easy to think you need to hire managers. If you want to grow and delegate successfully, there’s no way you can function without them. Right? Wrong. When you hire people who do nothing but manage, you implicitly say to the rest of your employees, “Don’t worry about the coordination or structure of your work—all these...

vacation?
It’s 12:45 on Tuesday morning, I’m waiting for our furnace guy because the heat doesn’t work (the second coldest night of the year). I’m wearing four layers of clothing, a wool hat, and gloves. I’m watching the last episode of Pillars of the Earth. This is definitely the way to start a vacation. For sure, people.

Ice Cream Is Better With A Fork: YAY! For TEDx... →
icecreamisbetterwithafork: My friend Tricia just posted one of my favorite TED talks on her blog: Brene Brown: The Power of Vulnerability. As I was reading Tricia’s blog, about nodding whole bodily while watching Brene Brown’s TED talk, I found that I was nodding full bodily at Tricias blog (which almost always…

Just going to come out and say it. Bad news sucks. Hoping to move to the I-can-turn-this-into-something-good phase sooner rather than later.

If you haven’t seen it, “This Is It” is an amazing look into incredible creative genius. The day #MichaelJackson died, we lost a brilliant artist.

Mother Jones magazine on Tumblr: When Customer... →
motherjones: “Are you Mark? We held the plane for you and we’re so sorry about the loss of your grandson.” The pilot held the plane that was supposed to take off at 11:50 until 12:02 when my husband got there. As my husband walked down the Jetway with the pilot, he said, “I can’t thank you enough for this.”
